Geringswalde has a long history of metal crafts. For more than 100 years, companies in the metalworking industry have been active here and can call upon a tremendous fund of experience. Fischer GmbH is successfully continuing this tradition today. Hartmut Fischer established Fischer GmbH in 1991, when he took over the tool-making department of former state-owned enterprise VEB Vereinigte Werkzeugfabriken Geringswalde as well as part of its workforce. Fischer himself had worked for the enterprise as a design engineer for many years; from 1991 onwards, he forged the department into an independent company.
Following the foundation of the new company, market reorientation was essential. New customers were developed and cooperation partnerships were formed.
After overcoming the initial problems, the company was able to modernize and invest. New design and production equipment was purchased and the workforce received appropriate training. The investments soon paid off. Fischer GmbH won a reputation for engineering expertise and sophisticated production processes. Sales grew and capacities were expanded.
In 1996, Fischer built a new factory hall, followed by another in 2001. In 2003, the company acquired an office and administrative building. Now Fischer GmbH, with annual sales of about 3 million euros, is a key factor in the regional economy and also a major employer in Geringswalde with a workforce of 50 plus three trainees.
